However, I didn't want to leave semester B without anything new on my showreel. I have 2 months to finish my dissertation and r+d module before my placement starts on the 28th March. As this seems like a long-ish time (although im sure it still wont be enough!) I'd like to build another project. Even if I just spend the next two months focusing on the bare bones such as the idea and the scripts and storyboards, it'll give me a great start and basis to start animating.
I have a month 'off' in between my placement (16th April - 14th May) so therefore, if all my uni work is finished before I leave on the 28th, i'll be able to use this time to pure animate and hopefully get something done!!
As I don't have a criteria to follow, i'm aiming to make it only around 30 seconds - 1 minute long. The reasons for this is that i'd rather make something visually outstanding than something that goes on for a long period. As the purpose is to enhance my showreel it isn't necessary that it should be overly long.
So far my idea is as follows:
A small creature is wading his way through very long grass that obstructs his view. The music is happy and pleasant and the sun rays create a warm feel to the scene.
Towering above him are large daisy like flowers gently swaying in the wind.
As he gets closer to the flowers it towers right over the top of him creating a dark shadow and it turns into a venus fly trap type plant and quickly and sharply tries to eat him.
As he jumps back he narrowly misses the flowers teeth and it calmly and slowly retreats back to its original position and friendly like state.
Slightly confused by this occurrence he goes on to wade through the grass, when he catches glimpse of a large curious object (not decided on what it should be yet) hidden by the bright sun rays.
He continuous to wade his way forwards towards the object but the flowers keep attacking him in the same way as before.
A fast pace chase follows him in his dash for the object with the plants attacking him on his journey.
Having reached the object he pauses breathing deeply crouched over.
Ending in some positive outcome depending on the object?!?! Not sure what yet!
So far thoughts around the object are:
A house that when he slowly opens the door, he's welcomed to a initiation party and he has passed the test.
A large bottle of wine (or something similar), that turns out to be something boring like a lamppost by its obscuring of the light.
A oversized games console, that indicates he is part of a game, and once he reaches it and climbs upon it he is transported back to his living room. (portal type scenario)
Another creature similar to him of the opposite sex, and they walk off into the sunset?
They're just a few options. I'm warming towards the bottle of wine idea that isn't what it is, for the humorous aspect.
I'm also a little unsure of what audience to go for, as the flowers would obviously be too scary for young children. The nature of the visuals, the bright colours and the character may be too young for adults and similarly teenagers also. Therefore if I incorporated the humorous aspect and the reference to freedom and fun (in the bottle of wine and trying all means to get to it) it may appeal to my sort of age range (18-25) more so.
I have done a sketch of part of the beginning scene that I shall post once i've scanned it in :)
